Pilates exercises develop the body through muscular effort that stems from the core. The technique cultivates awareness of the body to support everyday movements that are efficient and graceful. Deep breathing is also fundamental to Pilates. This means exhaling fully with every inhale to empty the lungs of stale air and invite fresh oxygen to flow in. Improved breathing and circulation allow the body to function optimally from the inside out.

Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years, and whilst many different interpretations and styles have been developed, most tend to agree that the ultimate goal of yoga is to achieve liberation from suffering. Although each school or tradition of yoga has its own emphasis and practices, most focus on bringing together body, mind and breath as a means of altering energy or shifting consciousness. Modern yoga is most commonly associated with the physical practice of asana, a series of postures often weaved together in styles such as Vinyasa Flow or Ashtanga. Asana practice is generally intended to build strength and stamina, to improve flexibility, coordination and balance, and to relax the body.

Muscular Therapy sessions at Intuitive Wellness are outcome-based massage. Primarily the application of a specific treatment targeted to the specific problem the individual presents and is administered after a thorough assessment/evaluation by the massage therapist with specific outcomes being the basis for treatment. The goal is to reduce discomfort, pain and increase quality of range of motion (ROM) and movement. Each session is unique to the individual and their current needs. These sessions do not focus on relaxation and at times can be uncomfortable, yet tolerable, depending on your needs. Relaxation is definitely attainable but should not be the goal and will not be the focus of your therapist.

It is important to give your Massage Therapist as much information as possible so be prepared to answer a lot of questions in this first session. All subsequent sessions will focus on alleviating these issues by treating the cause and not simply trying to make you feel better for the moment.

Aquatic Fitness is defined as activities performed in the water that promote and enhance physical and mental fitness. Aquatic Fitness is typically performed in a vertical position in shallow and/or deep water. There are numerous applications to appeal to a wide variety of participants. The water’s unique properties allow the pool to provide an environment for people of all abilities. Buoyancy creates a reduced impact exercise alternative that is easy on the joints, while the water’s resistance challenges the muscles. Water lends itself to a well-balanced workout that improves all major components of physical fitness -- aerobic training, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition. Shallow water programming is performed in waist to chest depth. The feet remain in contact with the pool bottom during most of the workout providing a low impact training option. Deep water programs, on the other hand, are performed in water depths that allow the participant to remain vertical (upright) and yet not touch the bottom. Flotation equipment is utilized to maintain correct alignment and provide a truly non-impact workout.
